Shrove Waffles

Even though we try to stay religiously neutral, here is a Lent-themed waffle recipe. Of course, you can completely disregard the author's intended purpose and enjoy these waffles whenever you wish!

Cocoa Waffles

Cocoa lovers have most likely already tried this. However, for those looking to do something slightly different with their waffles, adding some cocoa might be an idea worth exploring.

Sourdough Waffles

This recipe doesn't tell you how to prepare the sourdough starter necessary to make these, but instructions for that are quite easy to find. Once you get past that, however, you are well on your way to creating some delicious waffles. Sourdough fans may already know about these, but for those not in the know...the time has come!

French Toast Waffles

This set of instructions calls for raisin bread but one imagines that any sort of bread could be substituted. It's really just a recipe for throwing french toast on a waffle iron...which is awesome! Try it if you haven't already.

Bread Waffles

Besides the fact that this recipe calls for cornmeal-molasses bread (which not everyone may have sitting around), this is a startlingly simple concept. Actually, it sounds to me like you could call these french toast waffles too.

Waffle Shortcakes

This recipe actually confused me somewhat. What does creamed chicken and vegetable sauce have to do with shortcake? Also, the directions just say to make waffles as you normally would, so how does that make them shortcake? Regardless, this does sound like it would make a tasty meal.

Spice Cake Waffles

Here's a classic recipe that combines two great things: waffles and spice cake. Sounds good to me!

Three Grain Waffles

This recipe refers to it's subject as "hearty...but delicious," which certainly sounds about right to me. The recipe also suggests that these waffles be served with shaped butter (never mind that the shapes would quickly melt, wouldn't they?).

Wheat Germ Pecan Waffles

Supposedly, this recipe would only cost you $1.75 to make back in 1986 (which is doubtful). Regardless of price, waffles made with a combination of wheat germ and pecans is simply a great idea.

Speedy Pecan Waffles

Do you like pecans in your waffles but don't have a lot of time? It's a common occurrence but there is a solution: Speedy Pecan Waffles! It's stunningly simple too...it really just involves throwing some chopped pecans into your waffle batter.

Butter Pecan Waffles

Just pure goodness here in this fantastic recipe for Butter Pecan Waffles.

Waffles for Valentine's Day

Of course, waffle irons make the perfect Valentine's gift! Since you were having a waffle party for Valentine's Day anyways, it's only natural.

1951 waffle mix ad

Here's a vintage advertisement for Duff's Waffle Mix and, yes, they guarantee it's good!

Orange Waffles with Berry Spiced Syrup

This recipe is really easy to prepare and promises a lot of flavor. For waffle lovers that also have a taste for spices, this one really is for you.

Hot Cranberry Waffle Desert

Here's a nice waffle topping suggestion from back in the good old days of 1956. This recipe reveals the simple steps you can take to make cranberry butter sauce, something that I am sure many of you have been craving (perhaps you didn't even know you were craving it!).

Double Butter Waffles

Let's take a trip back to 1936, before the health food movement got out of control. It might not seem like a good idea now but back then it wasn't such a big deal: add twice the amount of butter that your waffle recipe calls for. I'm sure the guests at one of your "waffle parties" won't mind at all!

Buttermilk Nut Dessert Waffles

Waffles made with buttermilk are certainly classic and remain quite popular today. Lots of people like nuts in their waffles too, so combining these two favorites is an obvious decision. This recipe is geared towards the dessert crowd but (most likely without the ice cream) these waffles would probably be good any time.

Peachy Almond Waffles

The author of this recipe suggests that these waffles are best served during an informal brunch. I can't say that I disagree but I would also think that they could be served anytime. They sound delicious. Sliced almonds mixed right into the waffle batter is a wonderful concept and a peach sauce topping also sounds quite nice.

Healthy Waffles

Charmaine Solomon presented this waffle recipe to the world in 1974 and it still holds up as relatively healthy today.

Super Wheat Germ Waffles

A lot of people like wheat germ and here is a great set of instructions for making wheat germ waffles. This particular "super" recipe calls for the use of muffin mix to prepare the waffle batter...which sounds like a good idea to me!

Waffles with Pimento and Green Onions

Here's a 1950s era waffle recipe, short and right to the point. Make your waffle batter as you normally would but this time throw in some chopped onion and some pimento. Definitely an interesting suggestion for those looking for something different to do with their waffles.

Peanut Waffles with Butterscotch Sauce

Yes! Here are precise instructions for making peanut waffles to be topped with yummy butterscotch sauce. I don't think I have to say anything more than that...just make these and enjoy!

Canadian Bacon Waffles with Cherry Sauce

Here is a recipe for the fantastic-sounding combination of Canadian bacon and cherries (earlier we took a look at a similar recipe using apricots instead of cherries). This one calls for the cook to add diced Canadian bacon to the waffle batter and to top with delicious cherry sauce and whipped cream.

Halloween Wafflewich

Here's a fantastic, seasonally-themed waffle sandwich recipe. The author indicates this wafflewich could be used for a Halloween treat, but it sounds also like a great snack for anytime during the Fall season. Many variations could be used here, but this recipe calls for cheese, sliced apples and cinnamon-sugar to be used as the sandwich material inbetween a pair of waffles.

Corn Flake Waffle Cookies

As you may or may not know, you can make cookies on a waffle iron. This 1930s era recipe quickly shows you an easy way to make waffle cookies utilizing corn flakes. The interesting texture (and flavor!) of these cookies is enhanced by the addition of shredded coconut.

Cinnamon Waffles with Cherries

This waffle recipe reiterates something I've been saying for years...if you like cherries, you them with your waffles! This particular recipe calls for "sweetly-spiced" cinnamon waffles to be topped with a delightful cherry sauce.

Hawaiian Waffles

Another fantastic early '70s waffle recipe. This one not only tastes great but also offers you the opportunity to make a nice, easily achieved presentation (as you can see in the picture below). Waffles are coated with a layer of peanut butter and then topped with pineapple rings. In the center of those pineapple rounds a cherry is placed and you instantly have some great-looking waffles!

Apricot Canadian Bacon Waffles

"Wake up -- and start the day right! Be sure to start the day with a good hearty breakfast. Apricot-Canadian Bacon Waffles are substantial starters."

Published in the early 1970s, this is a sweet treat...literally. The combination of apricots sauteed in maple syrup is indeed quite sweet. When mixed with Canadian bacon, you have something truly hearty and totally tasty.

Orange Yogurt Waffles

Another fantastic, summer-time style waffle treat! This recipe calls for both orange peel and orange juice, which when mixed with the yogurt makes for light and creamy (not to mention delicious) waffles.

Codfish Waffles

Here's a great 1930s era recipe for not only one, but two types of codfish waffles! Cod lovers rejoice!

Olive Waffles Recipe

Here are some excellent waffle suggestions for those with a love of olives. Using these recipes, you can have olive chunks in your waffles and also top those waffles with a tasty olive and chili-chicken sauce!

Minced Sea Clam Waffles

This is an older recipe (published in 1928) for a particular kind of seafood waffle. These minced clam waffles have the clam meat mixed right (as opposed to waffles with a clam sauce topping) in for maximum flavor impact!

Chicken Liver Waffles

Here's a great recipe for those looking to top their waffles a little differently. This recipe utilizes a chicken-liver (perhaps other types of liver could also be used) and mushroom sauce.
